Smells like victory... maybe: Prague, Czech Republic

Quick update on my events from Friday, in Nuremberg. Had to get my money's worth out of this "Nuremberg day pass", so I went on a museum rampage. The best two were the National Nuremberg Museum, and the Nazi Rally Grounds Museum. In the NNM, I saw lots of extremely interesting German art from the 14th-16th century. This was my first taste of art/sculpture of this classification, and it didn't disappoint. It boggles my mind how they managed to paint, carve, cast and mold these epic masterpieces.
The NRGM was more of a self guided tour, with a small electronic device as your guide. You enter a room and there is a list of numbers next to specific displays. If something catches your eye, just input the number into the machine and you get an explanation about what is going on. Extremely dark museum, I imagine by design, and the whole thing was like a labyrinth in a way. The museum itself is adjacent to the incomplete stadium (looks like the colosseum in Rome) of Hitler's rally grounds. I also got to see "Der Zepplinfeld", where if you've ever seen old photographs/movie clips of Hitler giving a speech to ~80 000 spectators, is most likely where it took place. Was an excellent museum, coulda spent twice as much time there as I did.

On Saturday, I was got on the morning train from Nuremberg->Prague, with one transfer. Guess my luck, as I'm told that they're cleaning the rails, and my train will be 30 minutes late. Of course I miss the transfer, and then am forced to take a six-transfer-pain-in-the-arse rail plan.

There is a silver lining to this story however, as the last train which took me into Prague was an AMAZING piece of technological glory.

BEHOLD!!!!
Link!!!!
The SKR-FH2, the pride of the russian military and the most advanced locomotive to be released off the line since the SKR-FH1. Standard options include:
-Communist style sliding doors, that crush capitalists and backpackers in a single blow.
-Super rusted iron and steel parts! Now you don't need to wait for your train to depreciate in value!
-Capacity of hundreds, but the corridors have enough room for half a person.
-Fireproof cab-to-cab doors, sadly the rust keeps them from moving.
-0.000001MPG!!!!!

After getting into Prague, I had to navigate the laughingly horrible train station, and make my way to the super amazing hostel in which I'm staying. I met three Australians right off the bat, and we went out for a night on the town (El, Josh and Cas). We visited 3 nightclubs and a KFC, and then we made a feeble attempt to take the night tram back home, but ended up sharing a cab. One thing I will say about nightclubs here:

WOW....

stuff of movies.

-Kyle, all techno'd out.

Hey Techno Kid!

Prague sounds so amazing, I have always wanted to see it! It is the only place I really wish I could have added to my trip. Well, I'll have to catch it the next time round.

Be sure to take in the castle. It is the largest ancient castle in the world! Also, in St Vitus Cathedral, I have heard that, there is a side Chapel called Parler's Chapel of St Wenceslas that houses the crown jewels and the tomb of “Good King” Wenceslas.
Cool!

Oh, and Prague has great theatre, try to take a tour of the Opera House.

And try to sneak home that locomotive in your backback as a souviner (I'm sure no one will notice).

Have a great time in Prague!

Hugs,
Tiff
(wish I had an SKR-FH2)

When you're given lemons...you get great stories.

Another bit of advice. Take pictures of the day to day humdrum things (hostels, laundry facilities, KFCs, streets, trains, etc) as well as the people that you meet and spend a bit of time with. Also, get them to take pictures of you in the various places you visit. If you give your camera to someone though, chose a little old lady or someone you could outrun.

If you don't hear it from Alan, (Hi, Alan) he and Marie were in having photos taken for Firearms Aquisition Certificates. Apparantly they are planning to decimate Bambi's family.

We had a ferocious wind storm the last couple of days. I think I heard around 80k

The Roughriders decimated Edmonton yesterday 55 - 9, but there is a 3 way race for 1st place.

That's all the news. Can't quite compete with your adventures, I'm afraid. Everyone's saying how much they are enjoying your blog entries - very entertaining, articulate and evocative. That must be your mother's English teacher genes coming out.

Bye for now. Love, Mom

Yikes! I just Googled Prague and found there is nothing but rain forecast, changing to snow on Wednesday. I hope you got some kind of rain gear and warm clothing.

Good luck. Love, Mom

Yeesh! When I hear SKR-FH2 for some reason I brought up a mental picture of some precursor to the AK-47 or some rifle like that. How are you liking Prague? I never did go to a nightclub there so i'm glad to hear they are the techno-pumping, absinth-pushing, extacy-taking whirlwind that I expected. Of course, you would never touch the last two, right? right?

Check out the Communist museum when you are in the city. If I remember correctly, its right beside an ironically placed McDonalds.

Also well worth the trip is the Museum of Torture. Very cool museum, albeit slightly creepy. just a couple suggestions :)

Hey I notice we finally have PICTURES in Slideshow form. Is there a way to just look at the pics, in a bigger size and at our leisure, rather then just in the little sideshow sidebar? I got an error when I clicked on em :(

They should enlarge in a new window. not sure why they don't.

Heh, glad you visited at least one night-club while you were over there...sooo jealous (again, the good kind). And yeah, bambi is going down, the young ones are the best eating. :)
