Save tonight: Bruges, Belgium

For the past few days, I've been spending a lot of time with some awesome Canadians from Victoria (Jon/Caity). It's been a while since I've been able to act goofy, and not have the other people look at me with confused facial expressions. Not only that, but they both play a killer acoustic guitar, and are two of the kindest people I've ever met. Until now, I have never had the actions of others influence my activities for the day. I've joined a few people on night-time crawls or parties, but never during the day. It was nice though, and we managed to achieve quite a lot in the few days we've been here. Only glitch was I spent the entire day in bed yesterday. I was feeling exhausted, ill, and I had this crazy cramp in my stomach. I bit that one in the butt however, as my batteries are currently at "full" for now.

Bruges is a beautiful city. Very high on the "fairy tale" scale, similar to Fussen. The downtown core is super small, and it takes no more than 15 minutes for me to walk from one side to the other. Getting around is easy as pie, and the pie aint half bad either. The streets are also extremely quiet, with little to no vehicle traffic to be seen, other than public transit.
Visited some more 1EU museums, consumed the largest bowl of pasta I've ever seen, and played some billiards with a South Korean and a fellow from Ireland. Also went up the Belfort tower, which has had the unfortunate luck of burning down twice in its history. Once at the top, you have the opportunity to stand next to the large bells which ring every 15 minutes. Are they loud? Yes. Louder than my Z-680 computer speakers at home? Not even close (take THAT, 20 ton bells made hundreds of years ago).

Well, gonna make use of my limited daylight hours and see some windmills (I'm off the hook! TRY and stop me!)
"I'm sure those windmills will keep them cool."
"WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY! GOOD NIGHT!"

Hello. Glad you're feeling better. I don't know if you knew but the Golden Dragon shut down a while ago, so no more consommé soup for upset tummies. Also no more Almond Breaded Chicken, Go Lo Yuk, the best fried rice, or any other of our favourites.

I didn't realize how little I knew about Belgium. Wikipedia has been my friend to help me find out more about your travel destinations. BTW there are some really good panoramic pictures of Bruges (Brugge) there.

I'm afraid I will need a source for the windmill quote.

We got some snow yesterday that actually stayed. Until now the few flurries have not lasted so this morning everything was white instead of brown.

My landlord (Tri) put an enormous Loraas disposal bin right in front of my door. The neighbouring space was completely cleaned out as he is looking at upgrading in hopes of renting it out. So I finally had to get the last of my stuff out.

I filled up the gas tank yesterday at ONLY $.88 9/10 Can't remember the last time that happened.

Better get back to work. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Love, Mom

Hey Kyle, I know I have said it before, but you are a nerd. Just in case you forgot (hey, I am your big sis, I have to throw an insult in here and there!).

Sorry you were not feeling well but glad you are all better now. Your body is probably getting a bit worn out from all the walking and learning and partying.

I actually can't believe that bell wasn't as loud as your speakers. I mean don't get me wrong, your speakers are FREAKING loud, but I have been beside one of those bells when they went off (while climbing the most rickety, termite infested, 300 year old stairs I have ever experienced) and nearly fell to my deaf! (Ok I admit it, I am a nerd too. It runs in the family...)

Oh! And by the way...duh duh dunnnn...I am getting a new work computer!!!! WOOOOOOO! Finally! Now I don't have to hire a hitman to come "dispose" of my old computer and I may actually be able to open a Word document while surfing the internet!!! Ack! How exciting!

Ok so enjoy the windmills and go win some rounds of pool.

Yout sis Laurena-soon to be working on a computer actually made in the 21st Century!

Hey man! Glad to hear you're still going strong and taking in everything you possibly can...including the awesome sounding random-meat from your last post.

While no nearly as exciting as your escapades, I did manage to shoot my first ever deer yesterday. (Marie and I are up in Meadow doing some hunting this week).

We were out walking the bush and were actually on the way back to the truck when this decent sized buck walks out not 30 yds upwind and stares at us trying to figure out what the heck we were. I took my shot and he took off into the bush. We wanted to give him some time to relax in case it wasn't a clean hit so we walked the rest of the way back to the truck (30 mins or so) and drove back in. When we tracked him into the bush he was stone dead not 50 yds in. Got him right in the lungs so he was probably down before we left. Anyway, he was only 2 or 3 years old so should be really good meat!

Oh, how's the weather been over there for ya so far? Run into any coldness issues as yet?

1)$.88?????? WOW!
2)I knew about the golden dragon, thanks for opening old wounds mom!
3)The bells were electronically controlled, so the hammers probably didn't have the "umpff" that swinging bells do.
4)Fell to your deaf? That one made me laugh out loud. People here think I'm crazy now.
5)Grats on your catch Al. Make sure to eat the heart, to gain its courage.
6)Weather has been nice for the most part. One out of ever three days is rain though. Just got snow yesterday.
