T.V. something crazy: Berlin, Germany

As much as I absolutely love Berlin, I kind of miss one aspect of Prague: Food.
Well not food directly, but for 200KZ($12CAD) I was eating like a KING. The food that I devoured was amazing, the kind of stuff you see from super fancy restaurant T.V. shows in Paris or New York.
Now back in Germany I would have to spend somewhere around 18EU($27CAD), and that's without a beverage. My meal the other night was a medium sized jar of pickles, and an orange juice box from the super market. Don't get me wrong, pickles are great, but I do miss my cheap exotic Czech food.

Went to the T.V. tower today, didn't go up.... that was fun. Weather was poor and the sight woulda sucked. I then took my very first cross city U-train excursion EVER. Up until now I've only been taking inner city trains that span stops of maybe 3-4 city blocks. Screw up? no big deal, just walk home. Not today though, I sat there determined to go see the Russian war memorial. Researched the maps, double checked my algebra, made sure the stars were aligned, and got on the train. Made it to my destination with no problems, and for that I was pleased. The memorial grounds there are absolutely massive, and the Russian artistic preference is unmistakable. Lots of hard corners, lots of communist icons, and HUGE everything.

Afterwards I went art hunting, and acting on a suggestion from my hostel, I visited this run down POS building not five minutes from my hostel. The history is interesting: Landlord buys building, starving artists don't wanna go; claim they are a Berlin Landmark. Lawsuits ensue and the artists get to stay in the building for 1EU/month until their lease expires.
The building looks like it was bombed in WWII. I'm told it was, but never restored. I search for and find the staircase (which looked like the entrance to a crack house, not that I would know what that looks like), and make my way up to the artists floor. Lots of rooms up there, very little art. Some of it was good, but most of it was "beer bottle with dirt in it" or "super graphic violation of my eyes". Oh well, was interesting to look at anyway.

On a side note: my Berlin picture selections are complete and ready for viewing now, so you may find more information on my travels there.

Next up? Night train to Brussels, then Arras, France.
Not sure what I'm gonna do in Berlin tomorrow (while I wait for the night train). Guess I'll wing it.

Did I mention that your photos are absolutely stunning and the comments are informative and entertaining? Well they are.

I really like some of the cool angle shots, the detail shots, the night shots, the seagull shots (one of my favourites), the people shots, the old/new contrast shots...

Now that you're going to rural France, I hope that I can expect some sheep shots.

Love, Mom

And end up like poor Laurena? I think not!

Good news, bad news.

Good news: Gas prices have continued to plummet and are now sitting at 92.9

Bad news: With one second to play, the Lions are ahead of the Riders 33 - 12 in the semi finals. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that season is just about over.

Tomorrow morning (Sunday) the Brass Band is playing at 3rd Ave United for their annual Remembrance Day service. On Tuesday, we do it again at Credit Union Centre. Where will you be?

Enjoy France. Love, Mom

I hope you bought some art, starving artists need all the help they can get, and you never know when a refreshing bottle of dirt might come in handy.

My guess at the unnamed statue is that it is Promethius. The chain, rock and eagle are pretty big symols but I don't know who the two chicks are. Perhaps mortals trying to free him or perhaps Kratos and Bia sent from the underworld to bind him. Anyway, that's my guess.

Don't worry, the food in France is comming up. You can buy from corner "sandwich" shops almost everywhere. They are like starbucks, but with more bread and cheese. They are basically a baguette with cheese and you can have ham or a hot dog inside (mmmmmmmm)and they can toast them so the cheese is all metly and the bread is warm (mmmmmmm...drool) and then after you can find a bakery and have a chocolate croissant(mmmmmm..aagggggggledrooooool.
I won't even get started with all the cheese and wine you can buy at the grocery stores.

Well, I'd bettter go now before I drool all over my keyboard.

Hugs,
Tiff

P.S. Most hostels have dishes and pots you can use to actually cook a meal=) I found pasta and to be economical.

P.P.S. Remember to wash any dished BEFORE cooking to avoid Hepatitis!

P.P.P.S. There is no such thing as the five second rule in hostels.

I finished the 3rd Ave United performance. We start with some hymns, Eric does the Last Post and Reveille, then we do some more hymns. They read a list of the boys from that congregation who died in the wars. There were 11 in WWI and 16 in WWII. That seems like a lot from one church in one city in one small province. Then after the recessional we played Sing, Sing, Sing which is a racous Big Band tune with lots of loud percussion solos and full volume brass. There were only about 30 people in the congregatiom - mostly little old ladies, and that certainly woke everyone up.

......

I just looked out the window and there seems to be some strange cold white stuff falling from the sky. It's been a long time since I've seen anything like that. It looks so pretty and clean! I hope we get some more of that.

......

Another look out the window. The white stuff seems to be coming in greater numbers. In fact, it is swirling around covering things. I can hardly see the windows of my vehicle. How will I get home?

......

Hmm. The mysterious white stuff seems to have started to drift into little piles. Well, the novelty has worn off. I'm ready for it to go away.

......

My last appointment has apparantly stood me up. I think I will slide home, put a log on the fire and see what the Desperate Housewives are up to.

Bye for now. Love, Mom
